Today, Lilly had decided to take a walk up the lane outside her house. (Of course, Lilly doesn't spend all of her time in Norsonia..that would be just plain ridiculous!)
Half way down the lane, or up if you prefer, it doesn't matter either way in Norfolk, Lilly bumped into Mr Lesley, who was coming out of his cottage gate.
'Hello there young Lilly and where are you off to?' Mr Lesley bellowed.
Lilly grimaced, she didn't like Mr Lesley at all, he talked too much and he used to be a teacher.
'Hi Mr Lesley, I'm just going for a walk, down to the stream I think' she replied politely enough as she skipped past him and broke into a jog, just for good effect!
'You mind you don't fall in' Mr Lesley shouted after her, but Lilly had gone, which left Mr Lesley shaking his head and wondering why that child never stopped and chatted with him.
A few hundred metres on, and round a bend in the lane, Lilly stopped jogging and walked up to the gate of the field where the chestnut mare was kept. A blackbird flew up out of the hedge beside her, making his loud, shrill alarm call and startling Lilly slightly..I wish they wouldn't do that, she thought. From her pocket Lilly took two round mints and held them out, flat on the palm of her hand towards the mare, who had come to see if this girl had her usual treat. Lilly giggled a little as the mare snuffled and used her soft mouth to pick up the sweets.
Stroking the mares mane reminded Lilly of Srix her Ehwaz or horned horse in Norsonia. Lilly would have described the Ehwaz as unicorns, because that's what they were, but if you weren't actually in Norsonia, it just sounded silly to say you rode a unicorn into town. Lilly supposed that Srix and Stor, (Stor was Srix's loyal partner) were very probably in the woods to the south of Storbenn, by the little brook where she had first been introduced to them by Morii. What a day that had been! All of the time Lilly had spent in Norsonia now seemed to have a dream like quality and although Lilly knew it had happened..and aunt Alex knew it had happened, it still didn't seem very real somehow. How Lilly wanted to go back. The next long school holiday was still weeks away and all the time she was away from Morii, she was getting older much faster the he was. That was one of the annoying things, time was different in Norsonia, which was great while you were there, but as soon as you left, you speeded up and Norsonia stayed the same.
